  • 2 pounds apples granny smith apples are great apples for this or you may use a variety of apples
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup raisins or other dry fruit or sliced almonds* optional
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla


  1. Wash, core and peel the apples; cut into pieces. This should measure about 7 ½ cups.

  2. In a pan bring ½ cup water to boiling. Add apples; bring to boil. Reduce heat simmer covered 20 to 25 minutes. Add water if needed.
  3. Stir in sugar, lemon juice, vanilla, and cinnamon. Serve warm or cold.
