Biscuits are wonderful with a little jam or honey.  These can be placed on top of simmering stew and cooked about 15 minutes.Wonderful at any meal.



Light and flaky biscuits. Great with breakfast, lunch or dinner. You can also use this recipes for dumplings. Place the dough on top of simmering soup or stew and cover.Simmer for 15 minutes. Excellent! Enjoy

  • 2 cup flour
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup milk


  1. Preheat oven to 400*. Butter cake pan.
  2. Sift all the dry ingredients in one bowl. Cut in the butter so that it has pea size pieces. Slowly add the milk and mix but do not over mix or the biscuits will be tough. Either take a large spoonful of the dough and drop it into a prepared cake pan. The dough should touch each other gently.

  3. Bake 10 to 15 minutes.

Recipe Notes

VARIATION: Turn out dough onto a lightly floured board to knead. Knead about 10 to 15 times only. To produce flaky biscuits, take care, not to over handle the dough. Gently roll out the dough, to 1/2 inch thickness. With a floured biscuit cutter or your cookie cutter, cut dough. Brush the top and bottom of the biscuit with some melted butter. Place on ungreased cookie sheet; bake 12 to 15 minutes.

Buttermilk Biscuits: Substitute buttermilk for milk. Reduce baking powder to 2 teaspoons, and add 1 teaspoon baking soda to dry ingredients.

Cheese Biscuits: Adding 3/4 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese to sifted dry ingredients. Continue as before.   



Nut Biscuits: Add 1/2 cup finely chopped nuts to dry ingredients.

Sour Cream Biscuits: Add 1 cup sour cream in place of milk.

Herb Parmesan Biscuits: Add 1 c freshly grated Parmesan with 1/2 t  each marjoram, oregano, and basil. Also, add 1/2 t Worcestershire sauce and 2 to 3 T dry white wine. Add enough milk to make dough form a ball. Chill for 1 hour to get flavors to blend. Proceed as before.

Green Onion Sesame Biscuits: Add 3 large green onions, minced, 2 minced garlic cloves and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil. Cook as before.
