Black Berry Cobbler

Easy and wonderful. A beginner can make this. Everyone will enjoy this alone or with whip cream, or vanilla ice cream.

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 Tbsp butter
  • 2 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 5 cup blackberries
  • 3/4 cup milk or plain yogurt
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • 2 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp mace nutmeg, cinnamon
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 1 cup almonds (ground fine)



  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Clean berries, mix with the remaining five filling ingredients; then pour the berries into a 2 quart mold or a 11 x 7 x 2 inch baking dish and set aside.


  1. Sift the flour and baking powder into a large mixing bowl and drop in the sugar, egg, butter, nuts, milk or yogurt, vanilla, and lemon zest and juice and spices. Mix the ingredients until they are combined.
  2. Pour the batter over the berries and bake in the center of the oven for one hour, or until the top is crusty brown. Remove the cobbler from the oven and let it cool. You can proceed as before but place in individual baking dishes.
  3. Serve the cobbler hot, accompanied by a bowl of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.


  1. Replace berries with other types of fruit, for example, strawberries, peaches, apricots or apples.
