Cheddar Cheese Pennies

These are the home made version of the little Gold fish cracker without the unnecessary chemicals.

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese (freshly grated)
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp dry mustard
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • sesame seeds


  1. Grease or place two pieces of parchment paper on two cookie sheets, Preheat oven to 350 degrees. or overnight.
  2. Cream butter until soft; add remaining 4 ingredients. Form the dough.

    NOTE: I have learned to use a good quality cheddar cheese, some have more oil and can make the cracker greasy.

  3. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured board. Roll into a roll 1 1/14 inch round cylinder. Wrap in plastic wrap or wax paper. Chill 2 hours
  4. Roll the chilled roll in sesame seeds, if desired.
  5. Slice ¼ inch and place on a cookie sheet and bake about 15 minutes.


  1. Spread peanut butter or cream cheese between two crackers for you own sandwich.
