Honey Baked Beans

Honey Baked Beans is such a great dish, especially when you prepare them in the slow cooker, it makes it so easy. The secret ingredient in this dish is the smoked paprika, it adds a wonderful flavor. This is great for part of a barbecue dinner.

  • 1 pound pinto beans or navy beans
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 onion minced
  • 1 Tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 to 1/2 pound thick sliced bacon or salt pork


  1. Wash and pick over beans, put in a pan and bring to a boil then turn off the heat. Soak beans 1 to 2 hours or overnight.
  2. Drain and add more water to cover beans. Cook about 1 to 2 hours more. Drain and reserve liquid. Cut bacon the in small pieces and cook it.  Remove from the fat and saute the onions in the fat. 

  3. Place beans and onions in a 2 1/2 quart casserole. Combine remaining ingredients and 1 to 2 cups of the reserved liquid pour over beans.

    Cover the casserole and bake in a 300-degree oven for 2 1/2 hours. Uncover and bake 1 hour or until beans are of desired consistency. Stir occasionally.

  4. The beans may be cooked in a crock pot or slow cooker instead of the oven.
