South African Yellow Rice

The rich flavors of turmeric and cinnamon make this a very distinctive rice recipe. Easy and delicious.

  • 1 cup long grain rice
  • 2 cups water or broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon tumeric
  • /2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1 tbsp butter


  1. In a saucepan combine all ingredients. Bring to a boil uncovered. When it comes to a boil, reduce the heat to low, cover and let simmer for 20 to 30 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat and fluff with a fork. Keep warm until serving time.
